Unveiling College's Subcultural Tapestry

My project aims to show the diverse identities and experiences of college students by focusing on a subculture that tends to get buried under academics.  A subculture that showcases new found community and independence.

College is often seen as a purely academic institution, however, there is much more to shaping students'  lives outside of studying and lectures. During most downtime and weekends, an entire subculture/crowd of college students emerges as they begin to socialize and take a break from the week's workload. This subculture reveals a side of college not focused purely on academics but rather community, identity, friendship, and new found freedom. Weekends become a means for self exploration, social experimentation and leisure. The academic rigor still defines college at its core but the intimate student subculture reveals so much more. A rich community develops, one that plays such a profound role in shaping students' futures.
